    Who was Edward Mitchell Bannister?

    Edward Mitchell Bannister, born 2 November 1828 in St. Andrews, Canada, died 9 January 1901 in Rhode Island, United States, was a Canadian–American oil painter. He advertised himself as a portraitist but later became popular for his landscapes and seascapes. Drawing on his knowledge of poetry, classics, and English literature as an autodidact,  he also painted biblical, mythological, and genre scenes.
