    Who was Thomas Dewing?

    Thomas Dewing, born 4 May 1851 in Massachusetts, United States, died 5 November 1938 in New York, United States, was an American painter, and best known for his tonalist paintings. His preferred vehicle of artistic expression is the refined, aristocratic female figure situated in a moody and dreamlike surroundings.

    Poster with the painting The Letter by the American artist Thomas Dewing from the year 1910. Thomas Dewing (1851-1938) was an impressionist painter who is best known for his portraits and still images. He was born and raised in Newburyport, Massachusetts. He studied art at the Académie Julian in Paris during the 1880s and was inspired by French Impressionism. Dewing used light and shadow to create subtle and delicate compositions. His works have been exhibited in various museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
