    Who was William Turner?

    William Turner, born 23 April 1775 in London, United Kingdom, died 19 December 1851 in London, United Kingdom was known for his expressive colors, imaginative landscapes, and turbulent, often violent marine paintings. He left behind more than 550 oil paintings, 2,000 watercolors, and 30,000 works on paper and is today considered to have elevated landscape painting to an eminence rivaling history painting.

    Poster with the painting "Barnard Castle" by the British artist Joseph Mallord William Turner from the year 1825. The painting depicts the medieval castle ruins of Barnard Castle in northern England. William Turner is best known for his romantic landscape paintings, whose style can be said to have laid the foundation for Impressionism. His paintings are among the most valued in the world.
