    Who was Ernest Meissonier?

    Ernest Meissonier , born 21 February 1815 Lyon France, died 31 January 1891 Paris France. Meissonier made his name as an illustrator of oil paintings. He created paintings kept in a very small format, with few exceptions without any narrative or dramatic content but with the figures inserted with great art in the environment and always carefully studied after a live model.
